This policy explains how Backseat Network Pvt Ltd ("Backseat Network", "we", "us") handles personal data when you visit our website, advertise with us, drive with us or ride in a vehicle carrying our screens. We process personal data in line with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the rules made under them.
What we collect
Advertisers and agencies
- Name, company, email, phone number, GSTIN and billing details.
- Login details: a hashed password, or your Google account email and ID if you sign in with Google.
- Campaigns, creatives and website links you share with us or with Vira, our AI assistant.
- Payment records. Card, UPI and bank details are entered on Razorpay's pages and are not stored by us.
Drivers and fleet owners
- Name, phone, email, city and vehicle details, and documents such as RC, permit and driving licence.
- Photos or videos of the vehicle and tablet installation.
- Payout details (UPI ID or bank account and IFSC). Bank account numbers are encrypted at rest and shown masked.
- Tablet data: GPS location, online time, kilometres driven and playouts, used to run campaigns and calculate earnings.
Passengers
Screens show advertising only. The tablets do not record video or audio of passengers, and we do not identify passengers. If you scan a QR code, you are taken to the advertiser's own website and their privacy policy applies.
Website visitors and business contacts
- Details you submit in enquiry, callback, investor or chat forms.
- Basic technical data such as IP address, browser type and pages viewed, kept in server logs for security.
- Publicly listed business contact details (for example from business directories) that we may use to send relevant B2B offers. Every such email has an unsubscribe link.
How we use it
- To create and secure your account and let you sign in.
- To plan, review, run and report on campaigns, and to issue GST invoices.
- To verify drivers and vehicles, install tablets, calculate earnings and make payouts.
- To answer enquiries, provide support and send service emails such as receipts and payout notices.
- To send marketing emails you can opt out of at any time.
- To prevent fraud, keep the service secure and meet legal, tax and accounting obligations.
Who we share it with
We do not sell personal data. We share it only with service providers who process it for us, under contract, including:
- Razorpay, for payments and refunds.
- Cloud hosting and database providers that store our application and data.
- Email delivery providers, to send account, invoice and payout emails.
- Google, for Google sign-in, maps and the AI models behind Vira.
- Microsoft Clarity, for how people use the public website. It is not loaded on the signed-in console.
We may also disclose data where the law requires it, to protect our rights or users' safety, or as part of a merger or acquisition with the same protections in place. Advertisers see aggregated delivery data such as playout counts and vehicle locations on a map, not drivers' personal details.
Cookies and local storage
We use a small number of first-party cookies and browser storage to keep you signed in, remember your role for routing and remember small preferences such as whether you have already watched the product demo. On the public website, Microsoft Clarity records pages visited, clicks and sessions so we can see how the site is used. We do not use third-party advertising cookies.
How long we keep it
We keep account data while your account is active. Invoices, payments and payout records are kept for as long as tax and accounting laws require, typically eight years. Tablet GPS and activity data is kept as long as needed to report on campaigns and settle driver earnings, then deleted or anonymised.
Security
Data is sent over HTTPS, passwords are hashed, bank account numbers are encrypted, and staff access is limited by role. No system is perfectly secure, so please keep your password safe and tell us at once if you suspect misuse.
Your rights
You can ask to access, correct or delete your personal data, withdraw consent, or nominate someone to act for you. Some data must be kept for legal reasons even after you close your account. To make a request, email support@backseatnetwork.com. We will respond within the time the law allows.
Children
Our services are for businesses and adult drivers. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18.
Grievance officer
For questions or complaints about this policy or your data, contact our Grievance Officer at support@backseatnetwork.com or Backseat Network Pvt Ltd, Bandra Kurla Complex, Mumbai 400051, Maharashtra, India. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may approach the Data Protection Board of India.
Changes
We may update this policy. We will post the new version here with a new date and, for significant changes, tell account holders by email. See also our Terms and Refund policy.
